Erosion Control and Hydraulic Mulches

Mulch inno­va­tion at Syn­er­mulch has been focused on devel­op­ing prod­ucts that re-define mulch per­for­mance by uti­liz­ing the high­est per­form­ing nat­ural fibres avail­able.  Our man­u­fac­tur­ing process has been cus­tomized and tai­lored to process many types of plant fibres, from flax and hemp, to wood, cel­lu­lose, and straw fibres.

At Syn­er­mulch, we delib­er­ately design our mulches to closely con­tour to the soil sur­face for opti­mal per­for­mance this accel­er­ates veg­e­ta­tive growth by max­i­miz­ing seed to soil con­tact and seal­ing in soil mois­ture for bet­ter seedling sur­vival.

Syn­er­mulch uses bast fibres from flax as a key com­po­nent of our mulch for­mu­las.  These long, high strength nat­ural fibres are among the strongest in the world and pro­vide Syn­er­mulch prod­ucts the advan­tage of being able to wrap around the con­tours of rough soil sur­faces for max­i­mum soil sta­bil­ity.

We believe the best mulch prod­ucts are blends of dif­fer­ent fibre types that allow us to tai­lor per­for­mance for dif­fer­ent envi­ron­ments and indus­tries based on ero­sion con­trol and reveg­e­ta­tion require­ments.  Our mulches are designed to excel in the most dif­fi­cult cli­mates on earth and have been used to great suc­cess in cli­mates rang­ing from trop­i­cal rain for­est and desert, to Canada’s far north.

Syn­er­mulch has a wide range of mulch prod­ucts avail­able via our dis­tri­b­u­tion part­ners.  These include:

  1. Wood and cel­lu­lose based hydroseed­ing mulches.

Syn­er­mulch has the abil­ity to man­u­fac­ture a wide vari­ety of hydroseed­ing mulches based on cus­tomer require­ments.  These prod­ucts include blended wood and fibre mulches for tra­di­tional appli­ca­tions to 100% wood cel­lu­lose mulches for tra­di­tional and jet agi­tated hydroseed­ers.

  1. Tack­i­fier rein­forced, sta­bi­lized mulch matrix blends for mod­er­ate to severe slopes.

Our pri­mary inno­va­tion focus is on high per­for­mances mulches for steep slopes and dif­fi­cult envi­ron­ments.  We pro­duce a wide range of mulches for this pur­pose and tai­lor our prod­ucts to meet the require­ments of our dis­tri­b­u­tion part­ners and regional require­ments.

  1. Ultra high per­for­mance blan­ket alter­na­tive mulches for replace­ment of tra­di­tional rolled ero­sion con­trol blan­kets .

Syn­er­mulch designs mulch to pro­vide a high per­for­mance, lower cost alter­na­tive to ero­sion con­trol blan­kets that is fully biodegrad­able.  Our pre­mium mulches have been exten­sively tested for ero­sion con­trol per­for­mance and are con­sis­tently ranked as the one of the best in the indus­try by our cus­tomers.

About Flax

Flax is an oilseed grain pro­duced on the Cana­dian prairies for both food indus­trial use and pro­duces unique high ten­sile bast fibres in its stem.  These are the same types of fibers used to make linen and high per­for­mance com­po­nents for the auto indus­try.  Flax fibres are flex­i­ble and strong and are unique in that they improve in strength when wet.  These char­ac­ter­is­tics make flax ideal for ero­sion con­trol.

The strength and per­for­mance of these fibres has been known since antiq­uity and were an early source of inspi­ra­tion for the ero­sion con­trol indus­try.  Syn­er­mulch works closely with local grow­ers in west­ern Canada to source the best fibres pos­si­ble and has built its man­u­fac­tur­ing capac­ity around being able to use these fibres to max­i­mum effect.
